I have been an incomplete package. I’ve always had a remarkable ability to see potential—to recognize opportunity, foster collaborative relationships, and piece together a vision bigger than myself. I could see the big picture so clearly, but when it came to the details, I failed miserably.
The details drowned me. I got lost in the minutiae, unable to thrive in the very spaces where thriving was essential. For what I wanted to build to exist, I needed to master those small picture things. And I couldn’t.
For a long time, I thought I was broken. And maybe I am. At the very least, I am not whole. I’ve come to realize that I never needed to be. My success, my purpose, doesn’t rest on me alone. It rests on others too—their talents, their skills, and their unique perspectives. My ability to see the big picture depends on others’ ability to execute the details. Their ability to thrive in the details relies on my vision. It’s a beautiful, symbiotic relationship, one that benefits everyone involved when ego and greed are absent.
For too long, we’ve been told we must be self-sufficient. That to succeed, we need to do it all ourselves. And so we became everything we thought we needed to be, leaving behind the parts of ourselves that brought the greatest joy and fulfillment.
But here’s the truth: You are not meant to be self-sufficient. You are not meant to do it all. You are meant to do what you do best, to pursue the passions that set your soul on fire, and to find others who complement your strengths with theirs.
What if I told you that ignoring your passion is ignoring your mission? That when you turn away from the work that lights you up, you are turning away from God’s purpose for your life?
I know some will say it’s dangerous to tell people to follow their passion. To those, I’ll say: Grow a backbone. Stop letting fear control your life. Will you struggle? Most likely. Will you lose everything at some point? Perhaps. But in the end, you’ll gain everything that truly matters.
I’m not saying to be reckless. I’m saying to choose purpose over comfort. When faced with the choice between certainty and uncertainty, let passion guide you, not desperation. I promise you, the difficult road will always teach you more than the well-traveled one.
I choose experience. I choose growth. I choose to be the incomplete package that I am and trust in the talents of those who walk this journey with me. You don’t have to be whole to be worthy of your dreams. You just have to be willing to pursue them, broken pieces and all.
And in that pursuit, you’ll find not just yourself—you’ll find the others who make the journey worthwhile. Together, you’ll create something far greater than you could ever build alone.
